Technocracy Watch

Canada

President Donald Trump has repeatedly suggested that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States, a notion that has stirred significant controversy and concern among Canadian leaders and citizens. Trump has argued that such a move would eliminate tariffs, lower Canadian taxes, and enhance military security, referring to the U.S-Canada border as an "artificial line" that "makes no sense" These remarks have been met with strong opposition from Canadian officials. Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau firmly stated that annexation is "never going to happen," emphasizing Canada's commitment to its sovereignty . Similarly, Prime Minister Mark Carney criticized the UK's decision to invite Trump for a state visit, highlighting that many Canadians were displeased, especially considering Trump's past remarks advocating for Canada to become the U.S.'s "cherished 51st state". While some, especially the resource rich Provinces of Canada, have expressed support for the idea.  Suggesting it could be a huge opportunity for a Greater America to realize the vast potential harnessed by the region.

Greenland

Greenland is a vast untapped region, whose resources are locked beneath a mile of ice.  President Donald Trump floated the idea of Greenland being annexed by the US, during his first term, to take advantage of its strategic location and unknown quantity of minerals and oil lurking below.    Before his second term even began, Trump made it known he was serious about the idea, despite the hostility displayed by the media.  On May 7, 2025 the Wall Street Journal reported “U.S. Orders Intelligence Agencies to Step Up Spying on Greenland”1

Panama

The country of Panama is a narrow strip of land connecting Central and South America, its location and size made it the ideal place to construct a canal between the Gulf of America and the Pacific Ocean.  Construction of the canal was begun by the French in 1881, and completed by the US over thirty years later, after the French attempt failed.  Upon completion of the Panama Canal, the US managed the waterway and kept it safe from sabotage during two world wars.  During the Carter Administration, the US signed a treaty with Panama handing over ownership to the Panamanian government beginning in 1999.  Subsequently thereafter, the Panamanian Government leased control of the canal to a Chinese owned firm.  Amid escalating tensions between the US and China with respect to their trade relations, as well as a possible military war between the two nations, President Trump made it a priority of his second term to restore American control over the canal zone.

US

On January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump, became the second US President to begin two non-consecutive terms.  One of his first actions was to select Elon Musk, grandson of Technocracy Inc, director Dr. Joshua Haldeman, to implement the Department of Government Efficiency, D.O.G.E. Some have questioned whether the drastic cuts to nonessential services and elimination of government workers, is a way to bring about a pseudo-technocratic form of government.

Mexico

The Mexican government has found itself in President Trump’s crosshairs.  The election of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo as President of Mexico, has exasperated Trump’s frustration with the nation.  Sheinbaum’s close ties to the previous Mexican President’s administration, which was ineffective at controlling the influence of cartels, has provided fodder for President Trump and led to his request for military involvement in Mexico.  Despite the fact that President Sheinbaum has repeatedly rebuked President Trump, his declaration of the Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations, increases the likelihood that he will act with or without the express consent of its Southern neighbor.  As of May 2025, the US military is actively running recognizance flights over areas known to be controlled by the cartels.

Venezuela

After decades of sanctions levied against Venezuela by the US government, for its nations ties to drug trafficking, human rights abuses and a communist leaning government, the country of Venezuela is in dire straits.  Political refugees have fled the country in mass, desperate to escape persecution levied against them by the last two regimes.  As a result, the US media has actively called for overthrowing the Venezuelan government, while US agencies have tried on multiple occasions to institute a change through subversive means.

Columbia

The US and Columbia have a long and complicated relationship.  Beginning with US support for a separate Panamanian nation, at the turn of the 20th century, when Columbia refused to give the US control of the land necessary to build the Panama Canal.  This was followed up by the period of intervention undertaken by the US government during the 1920s, when US corporate interests were front and center in the decision to overthrow the governments of many Latin American countries in the name of trade. Following the second world war, the growth of communist and NARCO organizations increased strains between the two governments.  The subsequent decades witnessed Columbia embroiled in a civil war between the NARCO backed FARC and Columbian governments plagued by corruption.  The early 2000s marked a shift in policy towards one of cooperation with the US government and the nations have strengthened economic and political ties over the next twenty years.

Guyana

British Guiana gained independence from the Crown, in 1966 following decades of colonial rule.  Even before Guyana gained independence, the CIA was at work ensuring US interests would prevail in the first “free” election in the nation.  Close ties between the People’s Progressive Party of Guyana and the Communist Cuban government, has meant close observation by the US for the entirety of the nation’s existence.

Cuba

Following Cuban Independence from Spain after the Spanish-American of 1898, and four years as a protectorate of the US the Republic of Cuba was born in 1904.  The next two decades saw a large influx in capital from the US as Cuba became a favorite place for American tourists.  The outside money brought increased influence from US corporations and a rift grew between social classes on the island.  The Batista regime was viewed as puppet of the US government and the 1950s saw the rise of Fidel Castro.  The resulting revolution witnessed a Communist Cuban government with close ties to the Soviet Union and the nationalization of all private industry on the island.  The Us government responded to the regime change by cutting all trade to the nation and attempting to subversively remove Fidel from power for decades.  Even after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the death of revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, the Cuban government has remained under Communist control and the US continues to impose hefty sanctions on its Southern neighbor.

Mars

Elon Musk has declared the need for humans to create a multi-planetary future, to insure the survival of humanity, upon a catastrophic event on Earth.  In February of 2019, Musk ran a Twitter poll asking to “Make the Mars Technocracy real”, 92% voted in favor, and in June of the same year Musk tweeted, ”Accelerating Starship development to build the Martian Technocracy”.  Technocracy, was the radical form of government championed by Elon Musk’s grandfather, and author of The International Conspiracy in Health and The International Conspiracy to Establish a World Dictatorship and the Menace to South Africa, which appear for the first time in the US in Mein Grandpa.
